The Greatest Show on Earth

The first falling out occurred with Flip Saunders. The second falling out occurred with Kevin Garnett. And the third falling out appears to be in its initial stages with Fred Hoiberg.
"This means we're keeping him."
Those were Hoiberg's words after the selection of O.J. Mayo with the third pick in yesterday's NBA Draft. A little over five hours later Kevin McHale traded Mayo, Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker and Greg Buckner to the Memphis Grizzlies for Kevin Love, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal and Jason Collins. Despite McHale's assertion that there wasn't a division among the Wolves' decision makers, Hoiberg's statements leading up to and following the third selection say otherwise. Hoiberg can't be happy that McHale took a page out of George Bush's playbook and "Colin Powelled" him while the ringmaster was in the war room making a deal with Memphis. (McHale will tell you that he thought the deal was off the table and Memphis didn't call the Wolves until the end of the first round to discuss a trade. We believe that about as much as we believe those circus losers don't feed pounds of tranquilizers to the elephants every day.) McHale's move, however, made it easy for owner Glen Taylor to see where his VP of Basketball Operations and Assistant GM stand on the matter. However, even if Mayo becomes a star Taylor's history tells us he won't pull the plug on the circus that has pitched its tent at 600 First Avenue North. Taylor loves a good circus and nobody is going to take his peanuts away from him anytime soon.

Shoot me now.

First we trade a "potential" super star for a "potential" good player.

Secondly, can someone tell me why don't we need a point gaurd? We just traded Adriana Lima and now just have Bassy (Telfair) and Zoolander (Foye: can only turn left) as point gaurds?

I am so glad that I am not a wolves fan anymore. I washed my hands from this team the minute they traded KG and got garbage in return. Sorry, they needed to do more than get Al Jefferson, and I think the 5 Wolves fans overrate Al Jefferson. I think Jefferson is a guy that post numbers and nothing more. If he was that good, why did Boston dump him? Think about it.

Last night's trade was a dark day for this franchise. I don't want to hear about Kevin Love's intangibles and his game. Love is nothing more than a good college player who benefit playing in Ben Howland's system. He is going to get his rear kicked by guys that play his position on a nightly basis next year. I bet Love does not last after three years tops.

You don't go trade a future star for a role player at best. You just don't. In the NBA, you win with stars period. I don't think Al Jefferson is a star despite what some people think. Mayo is. He can make others better. He can defend better. He can shoot well. This is a making of a star, and the Wolves pass that one up? I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the Wolves like to outdo their stupidity. It's all this franchise has done.

You can't convince me that this deal is a good one no matter how hard you try. You don't deal a future star in O.J. Mayo for a potential scrub.

This franchise needed to get Mayo not only to win games, but to create a buzz and get fans to come. Love does not do either so look for empty seats and low TV ratings.

It wouldn't sadden me if the Wolves leave Minnesota when you see stuff like this.

Leslie, I left the Wolves long ago too. Part of that has to do with me leaving Minnesota to live out east. I can only convince the Mrs. to order all-access DirecTV coverage in a few sports--college hoops (now free) MLB and NFL.

McHale is a joke. We all know this. But let's not root for the Wolves to leave town?
